Senior Merchant, International

The Senior Merchant, International translates the brand vision into strategies that drive growth across global markets. This role advances the business by analyzing consumer insights, monitoring the external marketplace, and deeply understanding regional nuances, target consumers, and brand‑specific trends. They transform these insights into actionable assortment and commercial strategies that elevate brand performance internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead International Assortment Strategy:

Develop and execute the international assortment strategy, ensuring the brand vision is upheld while meeting the unique preferences of global consumers.

  • Partner with U.S. Merchants:

Maintain close alignment with U.S. Merchant teams to stay informed on newness, redesigns, and restages. Collaborate seasonally with all categories to understand broader shop stories and build assortments that enhance emotional storytelling at retail.

  • Present Line Plans:

Build, articulate, and present seasonal line plans to franchise partners and cross-functional teams across International.

  • Drive In-Season Performance:

In partnership with the MP&A team, monitor and analyze in-season sales trends to identify opportunities and take action to drive improved results.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Provide product knowledge and serve as a resource to Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and Store teams to support aligned and effective execution.

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance:

Work closely with Regulatory and Legal teams to ensure all international product offerings meet local compliance standards.

  • Conduct Competitive Patterning:

Maintain a deep understanding of the market landscape by regularly shopping benchmark competitors and scanning the market for insights that inform in‑season actions and future line planning.

  • Identify Strategic White Space:

Unlock incremental opportunities by identifying localization needs across markets, balancing customer preferences with strong ROI.

  • Engage with Franchise Partners:

Collaborate regularly with franchise partners to understand market dynamics, consumer trends, and driven pressures.

  • Talent Leadership:

Hire, coach, develop, and evaluate Associate and/or Assistant Merchants, fostering a high-performing team.

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in brand development, merchandise buying, or retail management.
  • Ability to independently drive work and lead teams with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong marketplace and competitor patterning skills, with the ability to translate insights into clear recommendations.
  • Balance of creativity and conceptual thinking with strong analytical and project management capabilities.
  • Proven success operating in a constantly evolving, agile retail environment.
  • Experience in a vertically integrated retail organization with strong financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving high-volume business growth and delivering strong bottom-line results.
  • Exceptional commercialization skills with the ability to anticipate challenges, problem-solve, and follow through.
  • Deep understanding of brand identity, consumer behavior, and fashion trends.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to communicate a compelling vision.
  • Inspirational leadership style with high integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop, and retain top talent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
