This role is responsible for helping to set UX direction on the Design Operations (DesignOps) team. An ideal candidate for this role excels in design thinking, systems thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and possesses a firm understanding of industry best practices in native mobile and mobile-first web experiences. Responsible for mentoring and guiding the junior designers on the team. Previous experience building and maintaining Design Systems or on a Design Operations team in a lead capacity is a plus.

  • Works well with cross-disciplinary teams, including FED, to create consistent, functional, and reusable interface components and champion design system adoption.
  • Proficient in communicating direction, design principles, and design specifications and documentation.
  • Champions a highly collaborative design process and is trusted by their team to talk through both scope and technical challenges and negotiate thoughtful outcomes.
  • Takes a leadership role in cross-discipline meetings, bringing a design voice to the conversations and building trust between the DesignOps team and other disciplines, including Content teams.
  • Conducting component discovery, designing and building atomic components, and writing component documentation.
  • Researches and patterns best-in-class component builds and proposes approaches that work best for our design system.
  • Creates design proposals for new or reworked components.
  • Builds components in Figma with consistent naming and usable properties.
  • Documents the component for handoff to FED and product teams.
  • Developing processes and approaches to solving design problems.
  • Identifies areas for improvement to team processes and collaboratively enacts enhancements.
  • Communicates design considerations to different audiences including developers, management, and leadership.
  • Uses known methods and anticipates problems to strategize design solutions that meet and exceed business objectives.
  • Working with Product Design Manager(s) to streamline crafting processes and foster tool and template adoption.
  • Creating and evolving tools and templates for team and stakeholder use.
  • Working with the DesignOps team to prioritize new component requests, conducting interviews with design system users, and setting expectations for delivery.
  • Conducting working sessions with designers who need in-depth support on system usage.
  • Demonstrates experience executing design practices within Agile software development.
  • Collaborates with the DesignOps team to build and maintain the product backlog.
  • Understands and considers business goals in their design decisions/solutions.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years hands-on designing product experiences or general UX design
  • Previous experience working on a cross-functional product team in an Agile environment
  • Experts in navigating and leveraging a heavily cross-functional environment
  • 1+ years mentoring other designers
  • Experience in leading the delivery on multiple shipped products.
  • Demonstrate the ability to drive change, improve workflows, and shepherd their team’s initiatives.
  • Ability to plan and execute the work according to current priorities and are able to deliver solutions that meet requirements and constraints while maintaining high standards of quality.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
